The Pavestone Dover to Monte Carlo Rally promised to be a gruelling drive for four intrepid members of Parker Building Supplies Staff. But it was all worthwhile because our MIGHTY MERCHANT PARKER RANGERS have returned to Blighty with an amazing charity fund for Teenage Cancer Trust…
The rules of the Rally were simple. Entrants were required to buy a road-legal car for no more than £500 (the cheaper the car, the more fun!), to pimp it up (which, for the uninitiated means painting and decorating it) and then set off from Dover on the ferry before hitting the scenic (and bumpy) streets which traverse Europe’s greatest cities for 4 days. Destination Monte Carlo!
We opted for a 14-year-old 2 litre Volkswagen Passat which has been re-wrapped in our chosen theme…
Dress code was important with crazy fancy dress encouraged, hence the reason our team elected to dress up as the Mighty Merchant Parker Rangers!
The teams had to complete challenges along the way, and had loads of fun and laughs … all in a very good cause!!
The journey for Alice, Carl, Clare and Jason have enjoyed an amazing 6 days. Along with the teams taking part in the PAVESTONE DOVER TO MONTE CARLO RALLY, they raised over £150,000 for Parkers’ Partner Charity Teenage Cancer Trust and the Rainy Day Trust, which helps people who have worked in the UK’s home improvement and enhancement industry but have since fallen on hard times.
Haywards Heath Sales Representative Clare Wilson said “We also made some amazing friends and memories. Thanks to Parker Building Supplies and Pavestone for arranging for us to join this brilliant rally.”
The Pavestone Rally was an exciting challenge which covered 10 countries in just 4 days! The organisers hoped to improve on last year’s tally of £60,000 raised for the charities with the aim of beating a £100,000 target. In fact they raised a stunning £150,000!!
The teams met at the white cliffs of Dover and headed into Belgium via Ghent. First night’s stop was in Luxembourg City. Thirsty work all that sailing and driving! Kevin and Dorris joined up and bonded with the MIGHTY MERCHANT PARKER RANGERS.
The teams headed through Germany and Switzerland with an overnight in Liechtenstein.
Making friends along the way, the route took our intrepid explorers through Austria before turning right over the Stelvio Pass into Italy. The gang arrived at the hotel in Verona after a long day’s drive, a brief stint working on a building site and tobogganing down a mountain, and taking in some beautiful sights en route.
Last Day and dressed as clowns! The awesome foursome made a quick pitstop at the Ferrari Museum (hoping to upgrade their 500 quid rally car!) and embarked on some retail therapy! …
All teams were asked to raise a minimum of £1500 split between the two charities, Rainy Day Trust and Teenage Cancer Trust. We are NEARLY THERE and would be grateful for any donations via our Virgin Money Giving page. Just click here.
