Parkers’ Angmering Staff Bring Back The Memories Of Motown
On Thursday 2nd November, Parkers’ Angmering branch team plus family, friends and locals eager to enjoy an evening reliving a golden age of music all in a very good cause, raised over £1,900 in aid of our Partner Charity Teenage Cancer Trust.
Branch manager John Simmons had been wanting to organise a charity event for some time, and had the inspiration to turn his musical passion into a good excuse for a night out, lots of laughs and a chance to get back on the DJ decks.

John approached his old friend Steve Bowden of Connaught Building (who also happens to be a regular customer) who he had DJ-ed with with on a few occasions to see if he would be interested in spinning a few tunes. Steve (pictured above with John in his impressive jacket) very generously offered his services for this great cause, and the inspiration to organise an evening of Motown magic was suddenly a reality.
The Angmering team started selling tickets about 3 months before the event but it didn’t take long before they had surpassed their target of 100 sales. They even had people phoning up on the day of the event wanting to buy tickets. John’s love for 60’s soul music, and Motown in particular, was shared by many and the planned attendance of 100 reached almost double that number on the night.
The night itself could not have been a greater success. Plenty of smiling faces, laughing and chatting and dancing to some of the best Motown tunes around from the moment the doors opened until closing time. John has already been asked by a number people who attended if we would do again next year as they had such a great night!
The total amount raised for Teenage Cancer Trust was a massive £1937.72.
John would like to add a big thank you to everyone who helped to organise the event, to those who donated raffle prizes or supported the event by buying raffle tickets and to everyone who enjoyed the occasion!
