From the very first day of trading in 1984, Parker Building Supplies' philosophy has always been to provide 'Quality of Service' with knowledgeable and well trained staff backed up by good stock availability and an efficient delivery service, and this ethos remains firmly in place today.
Parker Building Supplies is the leading independent and multiple National Award winning Timber and Heavyside Builders' Merchant based in the South East, supplying both the retail and trade sectors. As a result of a strategic expansion and acquisition programme over the last few years, the company now employs in excess of 280 members of staff at 25 locations across the region.
As well as its heavyside depots, the company has a number of stand-alone trading divisions specialising in Paving, Kitchens, Bathrooms, Plumbing, Joinery and Architectural Ironmongery.
The company runs a modern fleet of vehicles including over 30 HGV vehicles, each fitted with remote controlled and operated cranes.
Parkers' material resource centre, 'Brick Matcher' service and Direct Sales departments allow customers to locate materials and discuss plans in comfortable and relaxed environments set up within its Uckfield Head Office.

Parker Building Supplies' various websites are in continuous revision, upgrade and development to cater for the public's growing appetite for purchasing building products online. In addition to news, special offers and extensive product information and advice and a Green@Parkers environmental section, Parkers' main website www.helpmebuildit.co.uk, also carries useful services such as current regional traffic and Met Office weather reports.
This website was awarded the Best Builders Merchants Website Award in 2010, 2011 and retained the accolade in 2014 and 2105.
Well Informed Staff
The company's well trained, highly motivated and experienced staff offer personal attention to customer needs and requirements, with a wealth of in depth product knowledge. This knowledge encompasses everything from traditional building materials and regulations to renewable energy and environmentally friendly products.
This service is even available online with a 'live' helpdesk on call for clients during office hours at the click of a mouse. Out of hours enquiries are responded to at the earliest available opportunity.
Training and development of staff is extremely important to us and is one of the key benefits of our membership of the BMF (the Builders' Merchants Federation). We are passionate about investment in training, and firmly believe in the ethos of transforming business performance by having the right and qualified people in the right place. We offer a multitude of training courses linked with our trade association where they offer an apprenticeship all the way through to a Master's degree in merchanting.
In 2016 the BMF introduced a new Award, ‘The BMF Training Company of the Year’, to celebrate the Member company that “has evidenced the greatest commitment to their employees’ development” through its training services. We were proud to have been named as the inaugural winners of this prestigious award.
New staff members all receive BMF Apprenticeship training and are enrolled as student members of the Institute of Builders Merchants. Many go on to attain the Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Customer Service (QCF).
In addition, we send staff to the four-day Sales Training for Sales Reps course, run in-company courses on the Principles of Merchandising, Transport for non-Transport managers and Effective Time Management. For more specific training within job roles we look to a line training with the correct provider for example all Branch Managers attend the BMF's two-day Branch Manager Forum.
In 2016 we were also delighted to have won the award for Training Initiative of the Year at the Builders Merchants News Awards, the only industry-wide event dedicated to celebrating the very best examples of merchanting and manufacturing success across the UK.
This award acknowledges the achievements of a merchant business in developing the knowledge-base of its staff, including the benefits this has brought to the business. Nominations were required to include objectives for providing the training; the learning outcomes set for the candidates; how the training was carried out; candidates’ achievements, and the benefits the training initiative has had on the merchant’s business.
All in a good cause...
Parker Building Supplies supports dozens of local charities, schools and other worthy organisations, but this year again named Teenage Cancer Trust as its main charity partner. The charity exists to improve the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer and does not receive any government funding, so they rely on voluntary donations. That's why Parkers have, for the fourth year running, gone to great lengths to raise funds (so far in excess of £100,000) and awareness and our hard working, dedicated staff have been unstinting in their support.

Parker Building Supplies views itself as much more than a builders' merchant. The company actively promotes its abilities as a solutions provider and as a problem solver. Particular attention and emphasis is placed on its service credentials and professionalism. It also markets its ability to demonstrate time and cost saving ideas for customers allowing them to focus on and add greater efficiency to their own business or project.
